New evidence against R. Kelly in abuse case
New York State prosecutors say they have gathered more evidence against R. Kelly (54). They hope to be allowed to use this evidence by the court when the case starts next month.
This is what several American media outlets are reporting.
It would involve new statements of sexual abuse from twenty anonymous women and two anonymous men. One of the men would have been seventeen years old when R. Kelly allegedly forced him to perform sexual acts. There would also be film footage.
The court agreed earlier this month to postpone the trial for a week and a half because R. Kelly's lawyers needed more time to prepare the case.
R. Kelly must answer in New York for the same charges pending against him in Chicago: holding underage girls against their will, forcing them to perform sexual acts, and physically and verbally abusing them. The singer has so far denied all allegations against him.
R. Kelly's new lawyers were appointed on June 22, a day after the singer was transferred to New York from Chicago. The selection of jurors will start on August 9, though.
