Perry left out of BAFTA Memoriam
Luke Perry overlooked in BAFTA Memoriam, stirring disappointment and discussion among fans and peers.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has confirmed that Matthew Perry will be honored at the BAFTA Television Awards following his omission from the In Memoriam segment at the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards.
The In Memoriam segment at the film awards, which featured a performance by Hannah Waddingham, did not include Perry, leading to backlash from fans and peers. Perry, who passed away on October 28, 2023, was best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the television show "Friends," but he also appeared in films such as "The Whole Nine Yards" and "Fools Rush In." BAFTA has stated that Perry will be remembered at the upcoming Television Awards ceremony in May.

This is not the first time BAFTA has faced controversy over its In Memoriam segment. Previously, there was an issue with the omission of Bernard Cribbins, and more recently, Kate Beckinsale expressed her dissatisfaction with the exclusion of her stepfather, Roy Battersby, from the segment. BAFTA has since confirmed that Battersby will also be honored at the TV awards.

Matthew Perry's death was attributed to "the acute effects of ketamine," as determined by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office. He was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home. Perry had previously been honored during the 2023 Emmys In Memoriam segment with a musical tribute.
