"If it (Bosnia and Herzegovina) decides to participate in something, it is an internal matter. But our reaction is a different matter. We used the example of Ukraine to show what we expect. If there is a threat, we will react, "said Kalabukhov.
He noted that he does not believe that "BiH will become a member of NATO in some fantasies, in some realities" because "there is no consensus in the country and BiH will not make a decision so easily in these circumstances."
According to the Russian ambassador, Russia does not yet have an action plan for BiH, and Moscow will respond by "analyzing the strategic and geopolitical situation."
The head of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zeljko Komsic, condemned the statement of the Russian ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"I strongly condemn the threats of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bosnia and Herzegovina", which he expressed when commenting on the possibility of Bosnia and Herzegovina joining NATO, Komsic stressed. "The message of the Russian ambassador that the reaction of Russia will follow, using the example of Ukraine, against which Russia is committing aggression, is clear, but at the same time unacceptable for Bosnia and Herzegovina," stressed the head of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Komsic noted that the decision of Bosnia and Herzegovina to join NATO can only be a decision of the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and not a pretext for an attack on Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"As the head of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, I have the duty to condemn and reject threats that are not only a threat to Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also a threat to peace and stability in the Western Balkans," Komsic said.
Bosnia and Herzegovina was invited by NATO to join the Membership Action Plan (MAP) in 2010.
At the same time, the Serbian part of BiH, Republika Srpska, declared its military neutrality in 2017.
