Russia's largest bank can stay in Swift
The EU will exclude several Russian banks from the Swift banking communications network. This was agreed on Tuesday evening by the Permanent Representatives of the 27 EU states in Brussels, the current French EU Council Presidency announced
As Deutsche Presse-Agentur learned from diplomatic circles, seven Russian banks will be affected by the measure. Russia's largest bank, Sberbank, is not among them, according to the report.
The Swift exclusion is part of a whole series of sanctions adopted by the EU in the wake of Russia's attack on Ukraine.
The approval of the Permanent Representatives is to be confirmed by the capitals in written procedure before the end of Tuesday. After that, the sanctions are to be published in the EU's Official Journal. From that moment they would enter into force.
