The body of Alexei Navalny
The body of Alexei Navalny is at the center of controversy following his death in a penal colony
Lawyer Vadim Prokhorov has expressed concerns that Russian authorities may delay the release of Navalny's body or fail to conduct a timely forensic medical examination[1]. Despite the FSIN's official announcement of Navalny's death, his relatives and lawyers have faced difficulties in accessing the body.
Navalny's family and associates tried to find his body at the Salekhard morgue, but the institution's staff said there was no body. Lawyer Prokhorov, who had previously provided legal assistance to Navalny, suggested that there may have been non-compliance with the law and possible interference from the authorities.
According to the FSIN, Navalny passed away after a walk in the colony, and medical personnel attempted to revive him, but were unsuccessful. Navalny's associates report that the cause of death has not yet been determined, and authorities have stated that the inspection may not be completed until next week.
While Navalny's relatives and lawyers have received official confirmation of his death, they still do not have access to his body. Navalny's mother has been issued a death certificate, but the body has not been released.
There have been accusations that authorities are attempting to conceal the details surrounding Navalny's death. His supporters are demanding an investigation and transparency.
