VIDEO: Russian journalist Oksana Baulina dies in missile attack in Kiev.
Oxana Baulina wanted to document the attack by Kremlin troops on the Ukrainian capital. Then the correspondent of the independent investigative website "The Insider" came under fire herself - and died.
While documenting damage from a Russian airstrike in Kiev, a second missile strikes
A Russian journalist was killed Wednesday in a Russian missile attack on a residential area in Kiev: Oxana Baulina. She had just been filming the destruction caused by a previous attack when she died from a missile, according to the independent online media outlet The Insider, for which Baulina worked. According to the report, another civilian died in the attack, and two companions of the journalist were injured.
Before working for The Insider, Baulina had worked in Russia for the anti-corruption foundation of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny. When this was classified as a "terrorist organization" by the authorities, the journalist was forced to leave Russia. She continued to work on corruption for "The Insider" and then went to Ukraine as a correspondent, where she has reported from Kiev and Lviv since the beginning of the war.
Continuing to report on the Ukraine war
"We will continue to report on the war in Ukraine, including Russian war crimes as well as the blind bombings of residential areas that lead to the deaths of civilians and journalists," The Insider stated. The online medium was founded in 2013 by journalist and activist Roman Dobrokhotov. Meanwhile, its headquarters are located in the Latvian capital Riga.
The Ukrainian Journalists' Association confirmed Baulina's death. It had previously announced that a cameraman for a local TV station in the besieged port city of Mariupol had died.
