Bangkok Welcomes the New Rama IX Parallel Bridge: A Marvel of Engineering and a New Landmark

Bangkok Embraces the New Rama IX Parallel Bridge

Bangkok, Thailand - The Rama IX Parallel Bridge, a new landmark and the widest bridge in Thailand, is set to open in March 2024, marking a significant milestone in the country's infrastructure development.

The bridge, part of a larger expressway project connecting Rama III to Dao Khanong and the outer ring road of Bangkok, spans the majestic Chao Phraya River, promising to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance connectivity across the city.

Constructed by the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) with an investment of approximately 30 billion baht, the bridge features an 8-lane cable-stayed design, stretching 780 meters in length with a mid-span of 450 meters.

Standing 41 meters above mean sea level, it matches the height of the existing Rama IX Bridge, ensuring seamless integration into the city's skyline.

The project, which began with the final concrete pour in February 2023, has progressed faster than anticipated.

It aims to ease the traffic load on the existing Rama IX Bridge by providing direct access to Suk Sawat Road, thus facilitating smoother travel to the opposite side of the Chao Phraya River.

In addition to its functional benefits, the Rama IX Parallel Bridge is poised to become a new aesthetic landmark.

Located near the Kasikornbank headquarters, luxury condominiums, and the Bang Kachao green area, the bridge enhances the scenic beauty of the riverfront. It also hosts various public activities, including religious ceremonies, 360-degree photography, love lock events for couples, and street activities, making it a vibrant community space.

The bridge's design incorporates a gentler slope compared to the original Rama IX Bridge, allowing for easier access and reducing traffic congestion.

It starts from the Rama IX Bridge's approach on the Thonburi side and connects to a new 6-lane elevated expressway, ending near the Bang Kho Laem interchange on Rama III Road.

This monumental project, named in honor of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, Rama X, symbolizes the pride and progress of the Thai nation.

As Bangkok continues to grow, the Rama IX Parallel Bridge stands as a testament to the city's commitment to solving traffic issues and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
