Jessica Barraza: Sexual harassment against Elon Musk | Six women have come forward
Six more women have now come forward to join the ongoing sexual harassment lawsuit against Elon Musk's electric car company Tesla
The lawsuit was originally filed by a production worker at the automaker's Fremont plant named Jessica Barraza, who claimed she was subjected to “nightmarish” working conditions at the factory that resembled “a primitive, archaic construction site or frat house.” In one scenario, Barraza claims a supervisor refused to act when she told him a co-worker was staring at her breasts instead of saying, “Maybe you shouldn't wear shirts that draw attention to your chest.” At the time, she was wearing a work shirt provided by the company.
After her lawsuit against Tesla was made public, six other women—made up of current and former employees of the California subsidiary—came forward and joined the case with their own claims against the automaker, filing separate lawsuits in Alameda County Superior Court . The group said they were subjected to discrimination, unwanted advances, catcalling and physical contact during their time at Tesla without consent.
“I was so tired of the unwanted attention and men staring at me that I put up barriers around myself just to get some relief,” a plaintiff named Jessica Brooks told The Washington Post. "That was something I felt was necessary for me to do my job.” She claims she was harassed from day one at orientation and eventually had to stack boxes around her post to keep unwanted attention away. Brooks eventually took the issue to HR, but they moved her to another part of the factory without actually addressing the misconduct.
Tesla has not yet responded to comment on the lawsuit. The company does not operate a public relations department.
