The decision was taken as a "precautionary measure," the production of the show announced on Twitter a few hours before the broadcast. The “New York Times” and other media reported that several comedians of the ensemble had tested positive for the virus.
Actor Paul Rudd appeared as scheduled, with Tom Hanks and Tina Fey stepping in as guest hosts on short notice. Music guest Charli XCX canceled her appearance.
New York is currently experiencing a sharp increase in new confirmed Corona cases. Within the past week, the number of cases has doubled from around 2500 to more than 5000 per day.
