Valeriy Zaluzhniy | Russian reconnaissance platoon near Chernihiv surrenders
A complete reconnaissance platoon of the Russian military has surrendered to the Ukrainian military near the Chernihiv region. This was announced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhniy, on Facebook on Thursday, February 24.
"The Russian occupiers, who have met total resistance from the Ukrainian defenders, surrender. An entire reconnaissance platoon of the 74th Motorized Rifle Brigade has surrendered near Chernihiv," he wrote.
Zaluzhny quoted Corporal Konstantin Sergeevich Buinichev of the 74th Motorized Rifle Brigade from the Kemerovo region as saying that the Russian soldiers were on an exercise in Yelena. They learned about the offensive in Ukraine on Wednesday, although they thought they were returning home.
"Nobody thought we would kill. We didn't go to war, we were gathering information," the Russian spy said.
